The Importance of Proper Boiler Installation for Guaranteed Safety

With such a heavy workload and responsibility for heating, correct installation of a gas boiler is paramount in ensuring safety, compliance and performance. Yet there are still an alarming number of people who will seek to get a boiler installed by unskilled or unlicensed plumbers and general contractors, and there are many potential risks with this.

Safety

Unofficial boiler installation equals an unsafe installation--there are no two ways about it. Gas is not something that should be toyed with or treated as anything less than a dangerous and volatile fuel. When unlicensed contractors carry out boiler work, they are putting not only their own lives at risk, but their client’s and neighbors’ as well.. Gas explosions and poisoning are very real threats and anyone with less than the required skills to carry out gas work will not be able to put the proper preventative measures in place.

Decreased Efficiency and Performance

A proper boiler installation will not just ensure that the boiler is in place and working; it'll also make sure that the boiler is working to the highest possible standard and providing efficiency. Boilers do not just need to be installed; they need to be calibrated, and maintained. A quick, cheap fix will not be a fix at all. In fact, it is liable to be working at less than capacity and will cause the owner to suffer financially as the boiler wastes gas, and subsequently money.

Breach of the Law

In the UK, anyone who carries out work on a gas appliance has to be Gas Safe registered without exception. Anyone who works outside of this requirement is breaking the law and can face severe penalties. Similarly, any boiler owner who knowingly commissions this work can also be held liable. If an accident or mishap were to occur as a result, the penalties can be even more serious.
