A Plumber Discusses the Common Plumbing Problems Homeowners May Face

It’s every homeowner’s nightmare to come home to a major water leak caused by a faulty plumbing system. No one knows when these situations will occur exactly, but they are bound to happen to every home, especially if homeowners don’t maintain their plumbing system properly. Other than leaks, there are other problems that a home’s plumbing may manifest:

 Clogged Drains or Toilets

Drains and toilets are designed to push waste water away from a home, but clogged drains may force waste water back into your home. Should this happen, you may try dislodging the clog using a plunger. If that fails to yield favourable results, have a plumber snake your drains. To prevent clogs from occurring, avoid allowing hair, food particles, or flushable wipes from entering your drains.

Burst Pipes

Now that colder days are arriving, the water in your pipes may begin to freeze and expand, which may lead to a burst pipe. This problem should be left in the hands of a plumber, like those from LB Plumbing & Heating. The best homeowners can do to prevent further damage is to stop water from flowing out of the sundered section by closing the main shutoff valve.

Leaks

Major water leaks can damage walls and floors. Before calling for professional help, the water supply should be shut off first through the stop tap. Normally, there are two stop taps, namely the main stop tap and the boundary stop tap.

Minor leaks, on the other hand, can be controlled through the use of isolation valves. Either way, professional help is recommended to effectively stop both major and minor leaks.
